Professor Floyd Pheninger’s life fell apart when his wife Amy was killed after she accidentally stepped into the path of an oncoming car. He took a leave of absence from the university and tried to make some sense of the incident. A book entitled Concrete Reason helped him find his way through the grief and confusion. On the twentieth anniversary of Amy’s death, Floyd’s friends and colleagues threw a party to celebrate his achieving tenure, and that’s when he began falling from reality, cascading across different planes of existence, searching for meaning in worlds of complete nonsense. Will Concrete Reason save Floyd again, or will he continue falling? This black-and-white series from Bruce McCorkindale and Phillip Hester deals intriguingly with the effects of grief on one man’s perceptions of reality; without a doubt, it mines territory that is atypical of the comic book medium.
