The Phoenix Resurrection: Genesis
(Malibu, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Malibu Comics Entertainment, Inc.
At the end of 1995, Malibu comics kicked off a landmark, crossover storyline that brought back the world-destroying Phoenix force, and temporarily brought the X-Men and other Marvel characters into Malibu’s Ultraverse.
Although the groundwork for the saga was laid some issues before in the various Ultraverse titles, this special edition gave it its proper start. It begins with a strange spaceship streaking across space toward Earth, eventually landing at the bottom of the sea, then settling in to wait for its mission to begin. Not long after, the fiery Phoenix force arrived on Earth, with the sheer magnitude of its power tearing a rift between the Marvel Universe and the Ultraverse. As the X-Men and others were brought across to the Ultraverse, the bird was stabbed by an energy spike radiating out of the sunken spacecraft. Wounded, the Phoenix began looking for a host—and found it in Prime, the mightiest being of the Ultraverse.
