Top Cow Classics in Black and White: Tomb Raider

A black and white issue usually adds something to a character—mood, tone, atmosphere, usually it can’t be explained in mere words. It’s a stark visual contrast to our color rich surroundings. Ordinary shadows become more sinister, threatening and mysterious. Dialog becomes more realistic when character motivations are hidden behind shades of gray. A genre like film noir would be the most recognizable milieu.

Here in lies the predicament; Tomb Raider is a computer game and its appeal is adolescent sexuality, cartoon-level violence, and simple riddles—not human interaction. Its primary attraction is the well-endowed Lara Croft AKA Tomb Raider and her suggestive apparel. Eidos Interactive should have shown more faith in its audience as this one-shot could have been an opportunity to explore a mature setting.
