Speed Racer (Mini-Series)

    (Now, 1992)
™ and © Now Entertainment, Inc.

Originally based on Tatsuo Yoshida’s comic strip Mach Go Go Go, Speed Racer became one of the first anime to be broadcast on American TV, enjoying a lengthy run in syndication from 1967 to 1982. NOW Comics licensed Speed Racer in 1987, and 17-year-old Greg Racer finally made his U.S. comics debut. The appeal of Speed Racer doesn’t really originate from its star but from his automobile—the gadget-filled, super-powered race car the Mach 5. The success of NOW Comics’ Speed Racer revived much interest in the character, enough to inspire a short-lived 90s cartoon that was disliked by many Speed Racer fans.
