Hogan’s Heroes
(Dell, 1966-1967, 1969)
™ and © Dell Publishing Co.
comic book based and the long-running and very popular sitcom, which was loosely based on the feature film Stalag 17. Hogan starred Bob Crane in the title role and a cast of wacky prisoner-of-war characters portrayed by Richard Dawson, Larry Hovis and Ivan Dixon. They were always the bane of Colonel Klink and Sergeant Shultz, driving them crazy with their ridiculous schemes and shenanigans.
Although light-hearted, the show was always a source of controversy in that detractors claimed it trivialized World War II concentration camps and Nazi Germany.
