Zell, Sworddancer (Thoughts & Images)

Stories ™ and ©1986 their respective creators

Zell first appeared in the pages of Albedo (Thoughts & Images) as a supporting character. Here she appears in her own series, which starts out with great promise, but was sadly suspended in midstory.

Her tale begins at the end. She was a warrior who had been guiding a group of merchants through the desert when their party was attacked by raiders. Zell and her comrades fought bravely, but in the end Zell was the only one of her crew left standing. Rather than surrender, she committed suicide. Days later her body would be found by her mother, who saw how her daughter met her end. From there, the story switches gears to tell of how Zell became a sworddancer long ago. Unfortunately, the first issue leaves off in the middle of this backstory, and a second issue never appeared. The issue did, however contain a very short Stinz backup story by Donna Barr.
