Star Trek—The Modala Imperative
(DC, 1991)
™ and © DC Comics
Captain James T. Kirk and young Ensign Chekov beam down to the planet Modala, expecting a peace-loving society ready for membership in the Federation. But instead, they find a totalitarian regime oppressing the entire planet—with the aid of technology and weapons supplied by a mysterious alien race. What starts as a diplomatic mission erupts into bloody civil war—with Kirk and crew, naturally, caught in the heart of it. Long-time Star Trek novelist and comics writer Michael Jan Friedman once again proves his skill translating the flavor of the classic 1960s TV show to the printed page. Artist Pablo Marcos (Marvel Two-In-One, Avengers (1st Series)) does a creditable job rendering the actors Trek fans have come to revere. The ultimate fate of Modala—and the identity of the mysterious aliens influencing events on that planet—is revealed in the follow-up mini-series, Star Trek: The Next Generation—The Modala Inperative.
