The social and political upheavals of the late 1960s were threatening to a lot of people. One way that the media dealt with the threat was to package the “revolution” with in a way which assured regular folks that hippies were just like them, only in stranger clothing. As a result, there’s the Mod Squad, a groovy team of undercover cops who spoke in a television writer’s idea of “with-it” slang, and one of the first efforts to sell baby-boomers a media simulation of their own self-image. Dell, which seemingly did comic book adaptations of every television show with more than three viewers during the 1960s, supplied the obligatory four-color artifact.
