Droids

Unless you’ve been gone for a long, long time to a galaxy far, far away, you’re probably familiar with R2-D2 and C3PO, the two lovable “droids” from George Lucas’s Star Wars trilogy. The squat, vaguely sarcastic squeaking of R2-D2 and the hopelessly pompous English-butler mannerisms of C3PO provided some comic relief to the cosmic space opera, and made for great merchandise tie-ins such as toys and action figures.

Marvel’s comic-book adventures of the two droids, based on a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon series, is pitched squarely at young readers, with a light cartoony style, easy-to-read stories, and lots of kid-oriented humor. Dark Horse later put out its own version of the title (Star Wars: Droids) when they acquired the rights to the Star Wars franchise in the 1990s.
