Angeltown is another twisted mystery from hard–boiled crime writer Gary Phillips (author of Shot Callerz and Midnight Mover for Oni Press). With echoes of real news events, the wife of a famous basketball player has been murdered and the superstar athlete is the prime suspect. Smooth but tough private eye Nate Hollis is hired to track down the fugitive, who mysteriously disappears after his wife’s murder. Hollis isn’t the only one on the trail though, as he must compete with the deadly and beautiful bounty hunter Irma Deuce. Interesting subplots involve Hollis’s love life and his father, a murdered cop accused of corruption. A first–rate detective thriller with a beefy plot and memorable characters.
