Rawhide Kid (2nd Series)

    (Marvel, 1985)
Marvel

The Rawhide Kid was Marvel’s most successful Western character. He first appeared back in 1955 and didn’t hang up his guns until 1979, long after the heyday of Westerns.

In 1985, Marvel relived his legend in this four-issue limited series. It begins as a mysterious stranger rides into town. As it turns out, the stranger is the aging Johnny Bart, a.k.a. “the Rawhide Kid.” As old timers tell the legend of this fastest gun in the West, a starstruck kid tries to convince Johnny to train him as a gunslinger. Johnny, saddened by a life on the run, refuses. Still, Johnny has made enemies of many a criminal in his life, and some of them have long memories. Johnny may want to leave his past behind, but it now seems that nobody will let him do that.
