J. Michael Straczynski strikes again. After wowing audiences with his comic book debut Rising Stars, the writer made famous by Babylon 5 launches his own imprint (Joe’s Comics) under the Top Cow banner with the flagship title Midnight Nation. Complimenting verbose panels (what do you expect from a television writer?) with imagery that is both attractive and otherworldly, penciler Gary Frank is as much a visual storyteller as Straczynski is oral.

Detective David Grey is trying to solve a murder that no one wants or even cares about helping to solve. In his search for the killer, the detective comes across The Men—otherworldly beings that kill at will. But David’s encounter with them leaves him shouldering a fate worse than death—the loss of his soul. Transported to the “World In-Between”—an eerie ghost world populated by forgotten souls—David and his beautiful guide Laurel fight to reclaim the man’s soul. If he does not accomplish his mission within 11 months, he will turn into one of The Men and live a life trapped in an eternal hell.
