Liberty Meadows Wedding Album

With its wild humor, strong characters, and strong art (which, sadly, make it a rarity in a field in which barely drawn strips like Cathy and Dilbert are hits), Liberty Meadows will be missed as a daily comic strip. But you can’t blame Frank Cho for stopping it — thanks to the regular LM comic book, we’ve been able to compare the original strips with the versions edited by his syndicate. It’s amazing he put up with it as long as he did.

Cho does a fine job of making Liberty Meadows Wedding Album both a great introduction to the strip and its cast of characters and a condensation and completion of the final storyline, which is worth the six-year wait. Moreover, it leaves readers anticipating the new comic-book version. Readers can hope the new format will allow Cho’s undomesticated imagination full room to run. (Here’s hoping we’ll be hip-deep in dinosaurs and giant apes.)
