Porky Pig (Dell)

    (Dell, 1952-1962)
™ and ©1954 Warner Bros. Cartoons, Inc.

Stammering swine, Porky Pig, was a mainstay of the Warner Brothers’ stable of cartoon characters, which also featured Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, and others. Porky’s adventures in print appeared in Porky Pig, early issues of which were actually numbers in Dell’s encyclopedic Four Color Comics.

Famous for his speech impediment and for never wearing pants, the sober and well-meaning Porky possessed a stubborn pride that was always his undoing. His thwarted ambitions and ego fueled the plots to most of his memorable and funny exploits. The title passed into the hands of Gold Key, a juvenile spinoff of Dell, in the early 60s, and then to Whitman in the early 80s.
