Winnie Winkle
(Dell, 1948-1949)
™ and ©1948 The Chicago Tribune
Created by former vaudevillian Martin Branner, Winnie Winkle was one of the first ongoing comic strips to feature a working woman. Known as “Winnie Winkle the Breadwinner” the star was a resourceful stenographer with a talent for maintaining a positive attitude and an even composure through the oddest of adventures.
After appearing in Four Color Comics, Winnie got her own, albeit short-lived series from 1948 to 1949.
