The Human Gargoyles
(Eternity, 1988)
™ and ©1988 Eternity Comics, a division of Malibu Graphics, Inc.
Released from centuries posing atop a European monument, a pair of gargoyles and their gargoyle baby hope only to find a home where they can settle down and enter the mainstream of family life. But Satan’s minions cause havoc everywhere they go, be it New York City or Birmingham, Alabama, putting their hearing in front of American immigration officials in jeopardy.
Though a quirky work that teeters between stupid and charming with every turn of the page, it’s still an unusual idea brimming with energy. The newsprint does not serve the subtleties of the art well at all, and the story’s tendency to flash forward and back at random can get tiresome.
The Human Gargoyles originally appeared in the comic Nightmare. Writer Alan Hewetson also created many comics set within the Cuthulu Mythos. Artist Maelo Cintron’s work includes cover art for science-fiction novels.
