The Sandman Presents: The Corinthian
(Vertigo, 2001-2002)
™ and ©2001 DC Comics, Inc.
Since his appearance early in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman storyline, the living nightmare known only as the Corinthian has been a fan favorite, even though he appeared very little in Gaiman’s original series. He finally gets a story of his own in this three-issue limited series. Set in Italy in the 1920s (during the time when his master was imprisoned and he walked the Earth unfettered), the Corinthian travels to Venice, where he finds himself crossing paths with a relative of John Constatine (of Hellblazer and Swamp Thing fame), as well as two horsemen of the Apocalypse, War and Pestilence. Could the other horsemen—including a member of the Endless—be far behind? This moody little tale doesn’t really add much to the stories and characters established by Gaiman, but it’s certainly diverting and, as such, worthy of the Vertigo name.
