Pop Art Funnies #1 is a collection of new and reprinted material that fans of Marc Hempel, Peter Bagge (if some of his characters were happier), the late Dave Berg, and other such satirists and humorists will truly enjoy. The stories run the gamut from a baseball fan with serious anger issues to a courageous mouse with unappreciative kids to a hotdog (Wally, who will appear on the cover of #2) searching for an elusive back-issue comic book.

Despite his small-press status, Hirchak is a polished cartoonist. He’s versatile, his linework exudes a mainstream sense of confidence, and his characters show a nice array of wacky emotions, including cartoonish contentment, maniacal madness, and gleeful giddiness.

Pop Art Funnies #1 is only 10¢ — plus a $2 shipping fee. With laughs to spare, it’s a bargain.
