X-Men Universe: Past, Present and Future

Did you know that X-Force team member Meltdown was originally nicknamed Boom Boom? Or that Wolverine got his trademark “bub” expression from The Thing? Or how about the fact that there are three—count ‘em—three Nate Grey’s running around the Marvel Universe: X-Man, Cable and the villainous Stryfe.

All of this information and more is just a comic book away with X-Men Universe: Past, Present and Future. Doubling as a resource manual, the 32-page one shot chronicles all things “X,” with a focus on the—at the time of publishing—upcoming 1999 year. Editors Tim Tuohy and Mark Powers manage to bring both new and old readers alike up to speed in a relative short amount of time in the goings on of X-Force, Mutant X, Cable, Wolverine, X-Man, Generation X, Gambit and the X-Men. Creator profiles and unclassified looks ahead provide fans with glimpses at what the upcoming year holds in store for their favorite mutants. But don’t bet the farm on this prognosticating because there are some errors (not to mention numerous typos). For example, editors promise an end to the Legacy Virus, but in reality closure to that plotline wasn’t reached until 2001.
