Kid Dynamite Western Comic

Stories about the settling of the American West and the existence of cowboys were so popular at one time that even comic publishers in England included Western characters in their list of titles. Published by L. Miller & Son of London, Kid Dynamite is a rather generic cowboy character. His adventures, while typical enough to be set anywhere, contain references to the Canadian cities, Alberta and Calgary, perhaps to better endear the character to English readers. Interestingly, a story that is set in Mexico appears to have Kid Dynamite’s name re-lettered as if this story was adapted from another character. The artwork is so unrefined that figures are interchangeable. Also included is “Marlow of the Mounties,” which represents that icon of Canadian justice, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

These stories are definitely a product of their times, with simplistic plots that support a condescending attitude towards Native Americans and women.
