Sisters of Mercy
(Maximum, 1995-1996)
™ and ©1995 Rikki Rockett and Mark Williams
Maximum Press acts as a sort of tryout for young creators who might have a chance to work for Image Comics. In Maximum’s Sisters of Mercy, two vicious animal-like sisters wreak havoc on prisoners who escape from a maximum security prison called the Mercy Island Correctional Facility. In the tradition of the “bad girl” craze of the early 1990s, Sisters of Mercy focuses on its buxom namesakes, with plenty of blood, guts, and sexy poses. There’s also a bad guy in the form of Dr. Vincent Casey, a.k.a. Doctor Death, who is obsessed with making a new body for himself by experimenting on living humans.
