Cable, the enigmatic former-leader of X-Force acquires a past in Askani’Son. Subtitled, “The Adventures of Young Cable,” the history manufactured for Nathan Christopher Dayspring finds him two thousand years in the future where he was transported to save his life, after being infected with a techno-organic virus by Apocalypse. He was raised by a mythic clan of women identified as the Askani, having been born of familiar, yet unspecified lineage. His adopted parents were Redd and Slym, two names that are phonetically familiar to X-Men readers.

Askani’Son has many Star Wars-like elements. Young Cable has a disembodied voice called Professor advising him à la Obi Wan Kenobi, and a Yoda-like cryptic advisor identified as Blaquesmith. Then there is Stryfe, cloned by Apocalypse from Cable, thus making the villain a more immediate relative than even Darth Vader.
