Spyboy: Final Exam

This time, Alex Fleming, secretly Americas #1 teen agent Spyboy, faces both his prom and Spyguy, an enemy operative who’s infiltrated his school as a teacher to frame him as a terrorist. In the process, secrets are uncovered, unexpected characters reveal their true identities, butts are kicked, and it all hinges on a cliffhanger that could completely alter the direction of the series.

The tone for Spyboy has always been somewhere between as serious an espionage comic as Peter David is capable of writing and the Totally Spies animated series. “Over the top” barely begins to describe Spyboy’s rogues’ gallery. But the uneasy blend of humor (more hit than miss here) and action works more often than it doesn’t. However, in this volume it has become clear just how compromised Alex and his ordinary student–by–day, super–spy–by–night situation has become over the years. The character’s unusual qualities have again and again been diluted, every time it turns out a new member of his supporting cast is another secret agent.
