Cyclops

™ and ©2001 Marvel Characters, Inc.

Part of Marvel’s series of mini-series called X-Men: Icons, Cyclops is a somewhat weak attempt to give the leader of the X-Men something to do away from the rest of the team, and to better define his character. Scott Summers, otherwise known as Cyclops, the mutant who can fire concussive blasts from his eyes, is stalked and finally kidnapped by a mutant-hating soldier named Ulysses. Ulysses wants to transport Cyc to the Savage Land for a fight to the death. The trouble is, Ulysses only appears in issues #2 and #4 of the story, leaving Cyclops time to have issue-long fights with old enemies Juggernaut and Black Tom Cassidy, and inhabitants of the Savage Land. The end finds Cyclops just as we found him, with a hollow victory and little or no character growth. The art by Mark Texeira is not his usual tight pencil line, but is still powerful and action packed.
