The Big Book of Weirdos is the amusing follow-up to Paradox Press’s The Big Book of Urban Legends. This giant-sized book collects the biographies of sixty-seven of the world’s greatest eccentrics in comic form. Among the characters covered are the mad emperor Caligula of ancient Rome, Henrietta Howland Robinson (“The Witch of Wall Street”), escape artist Harry Houdini, and the depraved Marquis de Sade.

The collection was assembled by Carl Posey, and the individual biographies are illustrated by a long list of talented comic artists. Although it sometimes seems—dare we say it?—overly critical of its subjects (particularly Thomas Edison and Henry Ford), it’s still a captivating book.
