Partake of the mermaid’s flesh, the legend says, and you will live forever. But what happens when you get tired of living forever? Yuta and his companion Mana are two such immortal souls who have traveled through Japan and the centuries trying to lead normal human lives. In their travels, they encounter others who were affected by mermaid’s flesh in much different ways, making them into evil monsters or “lost souls.” Rumiko Takahashi combines a delicate illustration style with bold, muscular storytelling power to unfold her epic, which stretches over several Mermaid titles including Mermaid’s Dream and Mermaid’s Scar. Mermaid’s Gaze follows the adventures of Yuta and Mana in present-day Japan.
