Superman: King of the World

    (DC, 1999)
™ and ©1999 DC Comics

This one-shot concluded a story arc begun five months earlier when Superman began having very lucid dreams of catastrophes and accidents that proved to be precognitive. In an attempt to prevent his dreams from becoming reality, Superman began continual patrols, forfeiting his private life as Clark Kent. He then crossed the line from enforcing what is right to deciding what is right.

By the time of the events in King of the World, Superman has discovered that Dominus, the professed “Master of All Reality,” was the source of his prescient dreams, by which he was attempting to use Superman’s subconscious to discover the location of the cosmic entity, Kismet. Now in order to find and defeat Dominus, Superman has usurped all governmental authority, declaring himself King of the World. But Superman’s new autocratic personality cannot be allowed to continue, especially if the team of Lois Lane and Lex Luthor have anything to say.
