The crew of the DSC Envoy had been only three years into their mission when the ship was irreparably damaged. Warning klaxons woke the five-member crew from suspended animation to their perilous situation and forced them to board the escape pods and seek refuge on the planet below. But since this is Monster World, they may have been better off on their demolished ship.

The set-up sounds like standard science fiction except this crew is seven years old. They were only four when they went into deep sleep with the intention of waking to a brave new world when they would be in their twenties. Scott Lobdel, long time X-Men scribe, wrote this title which seems inspired by (though less saccharine than) the precious X-Babies or Extremely Youngblood.
