Super Hero Happy Hour
(GeekPunk, 2003)
™ and © GeekPunk
Even super-heroes have to unwind after a hard day’s work – perhaps even more so than the average person, given the stresses of their job. What better place to do that than at the neighborhood bar? This particular bar is a favorite spot for heroes, where they gather to have a drink and discuss what went right and wrong with their day. Sometimes their days even impact their orders: one orders his drink without ice, unsure of how successful he was in thwarting a villain trying to drug the city’s water supply. Another wants to dump his nemesis off another hero, “because he’s got an annoying cackle.” One laments his fairly lame action figure, while another alternately belittles his sidekick and gripes about the pressure of having one.
This clever and witty take on the super-hero life after the job is a lot funnier and sharper than a lot of comics that try an awful lot harder.
