Punisher vs. Daredevil
(Marvel, 2000)
™ and ©2000 Marvel Characters, Inc.
One is a no-nonsense vigilante who punishes—usually fatally—the guilty, no questions asked.
One is a compassionate super-hero who tirelessly defends the downtrodden and the disenfranchised.
They are, respectively, the Punisher and Daredevil—two of Marvel Comics’ most popular costumed characters, and this thick one-shot reprints two of their most notable encounters. First up is writer-artist Frank Miller’s excellent two-part “Child’s Play” storyline from Daredevil #’s 183 and 184—a tale that finds our heroes on the trail of drug dealers who target children. “The Bully”—the second story in this collection—sees this unlikely duo pursuing a vengeful man who laces aspirin with cyanide and claims a number of innocent lives; Daredevil wants to bring him to justice, while the Punisher simply wants to kill him. And therein lies the main point of this special edition: an examination of the philosophies and methodologies of two very different men on very similar missions.
