Vengeance Squad

    (Charlton, 1975-1976)
™ and ©1975 Charlton Publications, Inc.

The Vengeance Squad consists of Candy Orr, a police officer who resigned because of her frustration working for a system that didn’t seem to deliver justice; Tulsa Coyle, an ex-marine who felt the country had inexcusably degenerated while he was off fighting for it in Viet Nam; and their leader, Eric Redd, a former treasury agent who had been set up on false charges by a mobster he had been chasing. Together they take on criminals that the police seem unable to touch.

This series was published in 1975, during the waning days of Charlton, when they were beginning to rely more and more on reprint material. Vengeance Squad was one of their few original titles of the time. Despite its action-packed concept, the art and story were strangely stiff and stylized In some ways, the more enjoyable read was its offbeat backup feature, “Michael Mauser, Private Eye.”
