Id

    (Eros, 1990-1996)
©1990 R. Crumb

Famed underground artist Robert Crumb reveals more pages from his personal sketchbook in this three-issue series. In Freudian psychology, the id is the part of the mind from which springs the raw animal impulses and desires. Crumb taps into his own id in a series of sketches focusing on sex, anxiety, and the bizarre.

The real focus, however, is on sex. Crumb’s fantasies in this respect tend toward “devil women,” “Amazons” and other slightly grotesque types. Crumb himself is depicted as a skinny neurotic at the mercy of his secret needs. Overall, it’s a weird collection—but for Robert Crumb fans, it should be a welcome offering.
