The Sandman: Endless Nights

After his years slumming as a successful novelist, writer Neil Gaiman returns to comics and his beloved “Endless” characters in these seven intense stories of wonder. Each chapter chronicles one of the Endless—Death, Desire, Dream, Despair, Delirium, Destruction and Destiny—in a self-contained tale superbly illustrated by a different artist. Standout stories include Milo Manara's contribution in “Desire,” set in pre-Roman Gaul, and “Destruction,” which takes place on a barren Mediterranean peninsula. Miguelanxo Prado’s work is highlighted in “Dream,” and Barron Storey and Dave McKean do grim-and-gritty work in “Despair.”

Gaiman more than makes up for his sabbatical from the Endless, originally created in his Sandman comic, and proves his sense of whimsy is still firmly in place. A wonderful treat for Gaiman fans and fantasy buffs.
