Tarzan (Dark Horse)

    (Dark Horse, 1996-1998)
™ and ©1997 Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc.

There’s something about Tarzan, the legendary jungle king created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, that brings out the best in comics. Indeed, there’s rarely been a bad version of Tarzan since Hal Foster started doing the Sunday strip in 1930, and the latest incarnation from Dark Horse follows in that hallowed tradition of excellence.

This new Tarzan series is broken into several shorter arcs, such as Tarzan: The Modern Prometheus. This is a two-part story that follows the adventures of the now-civilized ape-man in the New York City of 1909, which is populated by luminaries like Thomas Edison and his rival Nicholas Tesla (their rivalry is the centerpiece of the story), with cameos by Arthur Conan Doyle, Mark Twain, and others. The creative teams consistently deliver a literate, exciting, and beautifully illustrated version of the classic adventure hero.
