Tessie the Typist
(Marvel, 1944-1949)
™ and ©1947 20th Century Comic Corp.
Tessie the Typist was a romantic comedy and teen humor offering from Timely, the precursor to Marvel Comics, during the 1940s. Tessie was a feisty, blond, working girl whose misadventures in the world of men and romance generated the laughs. More interesting than Tessie herself were some of the backup features that also appeared in the pages of Tessie, notably Powerhouse Pepper by the inimitable and deeply weird Basil Wolverton, and Hey Look!, the early signature strip of Mad genius Harvey Kurtzman.
