Cosmic Powers Unlimited

    (Marvel, 1995-1996)
™ and ©1995 Marvel Entertainment Group

Like the other “Unlimited” titles (Fantastic Four Unlimited, Spider-Man Unlimited, etc.) this title is a giant-sized quarterly printed on high-gloss paper. It stars Marvel’s cosmic super-heroes, especially the Silver Surfer.

Excepting the debut issue (a whole-issue Silver Surfer/Thanos story), the plan for this series was to break each issue into three separate stories. The first would star the Silver Surfer, and the other two would feature some of Marvel’s other cosmic heroes such as Adam Warlock, The Squadron Supreme, or The Guardians of the Galaxy. The array of cosmic forces they could potentially battle is even more impressive, including Thanos, Galactus, or even Death herself. These sorts of conflicts had received great play in the early 1990s with mega-crossovers like The Infinity Gauntlet and The Infinity War. With 1995’s Cosmic Powers Unlimited, the stage was set for stories that were as grand in scale, but more contained as far as titles go.
