All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned From My Golf-Playing Cats

    (NBM, 1997)
™ and ©1997 Ruben Bolling

This volume collects Ruben Bolling’s irreverent and incisive weekly newspaper comic strip, “Tom the Dancing Bug” into an eighty-page trade paperback.

The collection showcases many of the strip’s recurring characters including Harvey Richards, who holds the title of Lawyer for Children and who can advise on the rules of “Finder’s Keepers, Losers Weepers.” Another character is Sam Roland, the detective who dies. Also included are Louis, a thoughtful boy not entirely in touch with reality; and Charley the Australopithecine, the ape-like missing link who just doesn’t seem to understand the logic of modern society.

The book also contains one-shot classics such as “O.J. Simpson, the Cartoon” (with O.J. portrayed as Homer from The Simpsons), and “The Looney Toonification of America” (discussing Tonya Harding, the Menendez brothers, and Lorena Bobbit).

The lengthy title, according to the cover, is “designed to maximize appeal to the mass-market book-buying public,” and mirrors the strip itself in both wit and cynicism.
