Solstice

    (Man of Action, 1995, 2005)
™ and ©2005 Steven T. Seagle and Justin Norman
Issue #3 never published, collected in trade paperback.

Solstice reads like a large, complex jigsaw puzzle. Steve Seagle masterfully layers the plots and experiences to fit the pieces into place. The full story is not clear until it is done. It follows the son of a rich, selfish man who is obsessed with the fountain of youth—and the lives affected by that obsession. Readers follow them all over the world and watch the obsession get stronger. It is exciting, sad, startling, and insightful.

This collects a three-issue mini-series that hadn’t been finished until now never finished. The publisher closed its doors before the third issue was drawn. A decade later, the artist Justin Norman (who doesn’t do sequential art any more) had to re-train himself to work in a style he had abandoned. The art for the original two issues is stunning but uneven, and heavily influenced by Eric Shanower and Art Adams. The final chapter, previously unseen until this volume, is more consistent.

The 10-year wait was a long time, but the final chapter was worth it.
