Stories of the Fantastic
(NBM, 1990)
™ and ©1990 NBM
NBM has built a reputation by publishing some of the finest graphic novels. Stories of the Fantastic reprints the classic and critically acclaimed European comic series Les Cites Obscures or The Obscure Cities written by Benoit Peeters and brilliantly illustrated by Francois Schuiten.
Les Cites Obscures first appeared in 1983 with the publication of The Great Walls of Samaris which presents the journey of the observer Franz who is sent on a mission to the city of Samaris to discover its mysterious secret and learn why other travelers have never returned from the city. Other stories include Fever in Urbicand which follows the life of urbatect Eugen Robick as he copes with a bizarre cube which begins to grow exponentially until it completely covers the city of Urbicand resulting in the complete upheaval of society.
These stories are extremely compelling, and readers will marvel at the architecturally stunning cityscapes presented in an extraordinary, high-level of detail.
