First appearing in Spawn #38, Cy-Gor is/was Mike Konieczny; he volunteered to be the guinea pig in Dr. Frederick Willheim’s cybernetic supersoldier project, but he lost a good bit of his humanity in the process. You see, Willheim fused the bionics to the body of an ape because a human body could not withstand the pain. In order to make sure that the supersoldier was somewhat human, Konieczny’s consciousness was supposed to be transferred to the cybernetic gorilla’s body (get it? Cy-Gor?!?). Needless to say, things didn’t go as planned. Rather than an amalgam that’s 80% human and 20% animal, Cy-Gor is a superstrong gorilla with an amazingly high IQ. Writer Rick Vietch (Bratpack, Swamp Thing) and artist Joel Thomas (Prime) explore what happens when this big fella busts loose in this limited series.
