Heckle and Jeckle (Pines)

Heckle and Jeckle was published by many different comic book companies, the first one being St. John, with the numbering soon taken over by Pines. But the talking magpies actually got their start in an animated cartoon short called (what else?) “The Talking Magpies.” The two characters that were to become Heckle and Jeckle barely appeared in the film, with most of the cartoon action focused on a male/female magpie couple that keep bickering, which has since prompted some historians to argue that those two were the basis for Heckle and Jeckle, although that is not the case.
