The 1988 feature film was a huge hit in Japan. When 12–year–old Satuski and her 4–year–old sister Mei move to an old house in the woods with their father, Professor Kusakabe, the girls discover they may not be as alone in the wilderness as they thought. A giant camphor tree seems to be the home of a forest spirit, Totoro, who befriends the girls and protects them. But a telegram arrives and the girls fear their mother may never leave her sickbed in the hospital alive unless they can do something with the help of their friend in the forest.

My Neighbor Totoro is a four part adaptation of the popular hit movie. Very nicely done, but some readers may have to take a moment to reverse their reading habits since the books are published in the right to left reading pattern of traditional Japanese formats.
