Little Lulu, by “Marge” (Marjorie Henderson Buell) began as a gag strip in the Saturday Evening Post magazine in the 1930s. Marge successfully licensed the strip for reprints in newspapers and comic books throughout the 1940s and 1950s, with artwork provided by John Stanley. In 1972, Gold Key picked up the rights and began a new series of humorous adventures.

Little Lulu is a mischievous ten-year-old who torments her friends and family, including her pals Tubby and Annie, and her long-suffering parents. The little girl witch Witch Hazel, who began as a character in Little Lulu, eventually developed into her own strip, which is featured as a backup in the Gold Key issues. Both the writing and Stanley’s crudely effective art make Little Lulu one of the funniest kid humor strips in comics.
