Armadillo Comics

    (Rip Off, 1969, 1971, 1973)
™ and ©1971 Jim Franklin

Texan Jim Franklin managed to get his work published by Rip Off Press in the early 70s. The series was a showcase for Franklin’s short pieces, which were mostly surreal comics and pictures of armadillos. The armadillo is Franklin’s central icon, and he uses it as a symbol for everything. The pieces are bizarre and nonlinear, and expertly drawn in a confident hatching style. A forgotten underground, Jim Franklin’s Armadillo Comics are a good example of the unique expression of one artist.
