™ and ©1997 Marvel Characters, Inc.

Hercules, legendary hero of Greek mythology and longtime member of the Avengers, is at loose ends. Most of his comrades were presumed killed in the final battle against Onslaught, and Hercules himself had been stripped of his immortality by Zeus. Hercules has even begun to question his role as a warrior and a hero.

Meanwhile Ares, Hercules’ half-brother and the Olympian god of war, has plans to plunge the entire planet into conflict with his own high-tech organization aptly named the Warhawks. But global warfare isn’t enough for Ares: he also wants to crush his hated brother.

Lacking the help of his fellow Avengers, Hercules reluctantly allies himself with the forces of SHIELD. Unfortunately, SHIELD has already been infiltrated by the Warhawks, and Ares has obtained a powerful artifact known only as the Heart of Chaos.
