Bad Kitty: Mischief Night

Fresh from an encounter with Lady Death, shapely bad girl Catherine Bell and her tag-along tabby remain in New York City to look up an old friend. Turns out this ex-pal, who used to get Cat in all kinds of trouble, is now the owner of a chic dance club and invites her former running buddy to that evening’s costume party. Bell proceeds to rush out to purchase a gorgeous, cleavage-enhancing costume. Unfortunately for her (fortunately for the reader), the dress unravels easily during a skirmish, revealing a body to die for (literally). It also bears a curse, which brings forth a slimy, love-sick demon.

A cut above the average scantily-clad-babe-with-guns comic book, Bad Kitty: Mischief Night #1 will please fans of Lady Death and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Illustrated by Carlos Mota with inks by Andrew Pepoy, Cat Bell is, indeed, drop-dead gorgeous (again, literally) and likable, even if she is an outlaw on the run from authorities. The action amounts to little more than battling an amorphous blob with tentacles and eyes, but it’s all in good fun, like a B-grade flick. Dialogue and scripting aren’t exactly Shakespeare, but there are a number of clever moments and even some well-placed humor. This is mischief worth getting into.
