There are beings who watch us, heralds of life or death, messengers, warriors, caretakers, angels. They each have their duties and are held in reverence yet feared by humanity, but most have one goal: stop evil and keep it from spreading. Now two young people, Ferdi and Natalie are brought together by events neither seem to have any control over. Ferdi has memory problems and has been told he’s an ex-junkie living in a halfway house. But other memories of fire and power keep cropping up in his mind. Natalie was comforted by an angel calling himself Cobalt when she was locked up by her grandparents. Now she sees those who live beside us, angels and demons. And now that the two have been brought together on a doomed airplane flight, spiritual warfare is going to take on a whole new aspect in the twenty-first century.

B. Robert Bell has pulled together a universe where he hopes to shed light on “the subject of spiritual warfare in a culturally relevant manner.” His style and storytelling pulls the modern teen reader into examining just what’s out there past what we can see.
