Star Comics is generally remembered by collectors as the publisher of gruesome crime and horror comics luridly illustrated by the great L.B. Cole. Fun Comics proved that Cole and Star had their tender side as well. Formerly Holiday Comics, Fun Comics featured the usual assortment of funny animal antics popular in kids’ books of the time from Disney on down. Fun Comics #12 introduced Mighty Bear, a clownish black bear cub who took over the title with the next issue, and featured a wonderful cover in wild Day-Glo poster paint style by L. B. Cole.
