Yes, it’s a comic featuring stories about, singing the praises of, and paid for by ads about…coffee.

Whereas other generations have socialized over chocolate malts, cocktails, or a bottle of suds, the 90s are all about coffee. But while Starbucks and Co. have made a killing selling triple-decaf-skinny-lattes (hold the foam!) to the nouveau caffeinated, this special is more about the simple joys of a straight “cuppa joe.”

Ian Smith’s story by that very name sets a humorous, surreal tone for the rest of the first issue. This is followed by the infamous Too Much Coffee Man, a very nicely done bit of comic storytelling by Gheena called “A Saving Grace,” and several other coffee-related tales. Unusual in most indie comics, the whole effort is financed by several pages of—what else—coffee ads in the back.
