With the Marines on the Battlefronts of the World
(Toby, 1953-1954)
™ and ©1953 Toby Press, Inc.
With the Marines on the Battlefronts of the World was a short-lived war comic from the early 1950s that departed from the grim and bloody realism of most pre-code war comics to offer some behind-the-lines humor and characterization. Drawn in a pseudo-Caniff (Steve Canyon Magazine) style by the able Mel Keefer, With the Marines featured a loose and fun-loving outfit of leathernecks including Monty, Tex, and Canarsie getting involved in some very offbeat adventures. Issues featured photo covers, and celebrities like John Wayne and Monty Hall turned up in the stories.
